Hi,
In a concert band piece, I'd like the timpani player to play triangle as well.
I managed to switch from timpani to triangle with a "change instrument" tool, because it was at the beginning of a measure, but I want to go back to timpani on the 4th beat of the measure ... And the tool only allows me to do this at the beginning.
Any idea ?
I'd like to have the good playback as well.
I'm using Finale V25.5
Thanks

One can do this, with a bit of trickery, to get the look and the playback, without changing instruments in the usual way.

Here's the sample using Garritan. I tried Fusion Drum for the triangle, but changed it to Basic Orch. There are other options, but it all depends on what sound is needed.

Looks like in the first example layer 2 plays back on channel 10, general MIDI percussion. Where do you tell it to send whatever code makes the triangle sound for that space above the staff?

It doesn't. That's the trickery part. The playback is in Layer 3, also channel 10 set to percussion playback, using a Standard Staff. I really could have had Layer 2 set to the same channel as Layer 1. I think I started out trying to see if I could get the correct playback and look from Layer 2. In the past, that was not possible. I just wanted to see if I could come up with something I had not thought of before. The playback is in Layer 3, which is hidden. The Layer 2 notes are muted. They are for looks only.

Ah, gotcha. I imagine you could also apply a staff style to the layer 2 notes using a custom transposition to render the proper "pitch" for general MIDI.
...I guess not! Can't apply such a staff style to a partial measure.

There is a way to get a note to stay put and change its MIDI playback pitch, using the JW Change plugin. However, it doesn't affect the playback change when using HP. So, it really isn't going to be a good option. I think the hidden layer is the only way.
