I have encountered a problem with ties, they don't seem to complete their path... (see attached file).

The first time I encountered this problem was with my default file, using Engraver Font Set in Finale 26.1, paired with macOS Catalina (yes, I know. I should have waited, I was not aware of the problems before they showed up after the upgrade). However, changing the default font to Maestro fixed the issue.

Today, I updated to Finale 26.2. I was happy to see the problems with Engraver Font Set had been resolved... except for the problem with the ties. I tried changing back to Maestro, but this time the tie-problem persists! I opened the out-of-the-box default finale file, I tried throwing away the preference files com.makemusic.finale26.fprf & com.makemusic.Finale26.plist and restarting my computer, but nothing helps. I have also checked in document options and compared the Tie-settings with a colleague of mine, using 25.5 with Catalina, and the settings are the same (she has not the same tie-problem as me). Does anybody have any other suggestions to how to solve the problem, other than reinstall Finale?

Please attach a small Finale file showing the misplaced ties. It might be interesting to see if others see the same problem and might help in finding a solution.

I haven't been on the forum for some time.

I came here to mention the exact same issue. When you save the v.26.2-default doc. and open in v.25 the ties are alright ...

Odd. I haven't been paying attention. Since a v25 file looks fine in v25 but not v26, and a v26 file looks wrong in v26, but fine in v25, then it is a program issue. Now that you brought this to my attention, I'm bugged by it. I should have paid more attention. It seems to be under ties at issue, or am I missing something?

As Zuill noted, it appears to be an issue only with under ties. I submitted a ticket to Customer Support and will post here when I get a reply.

I would assume that some adjustment to the numbers in Ties > Document Options would fix this.

I'd be careful about that. Once the software is fixed, such adjusted ties might display incorrectly.

I have Finale 26.0 installed and the ties look fine. I guess the solution is to not update Finale until this is resolved.

I found what the problem is. Finale v26 is not honoring the Horizontal setting for the Tie End in Under/Outer/Note. No matter what you set it to, Finale doesn't budge. This is serious.

I just filed a ticket with my finding about the Under/Outer/Note issue. I hope they fix this soon. They just bragged about all the code upgrading they have been doing. Sometimes bugs do get introduced when that happens. I hope they take this seriously and fix it ASAP.

Since the Program is broken, and does not recognize the setting I previously mentioned, one may still adjust the tie with Special Tools. However, once that is done, opening the file in a previous version will display the tie incorrectly.

So, to say that Finale 26 files are compatible with prior versions is not the truth. In other words, this egregious bug poses some serious workflow concerns.

You'd think opening up an old file and looking at it would be the first thing a QA department would try.

Obviously not in this case. Since I have already updated, can you test the situation in v26.1, to confirm my understanding of the state of affairs? Maybe you don't have v26.1 installed.

No, I'm afraid not. If there is a problem with 26.1, it's surprising we haven't heard of it before.

Zuill -- the problem does NOT occur with v. 26.1 and Mojave.

I have noticed similar beginning and ending tie position issues in Finale 25.5, and I am on Mac OS 10.12.6 and have my tie settings at the defaults. Since it is not constant but situational, changing the settings might improve a few bad ones, but throw off the ones that are well-positioned.

I would say that it is more of a general Finale problem than anything else. Finale just can't handle the myriad of different cases involving ties.

I understand about Finale and ties generally. Here, however, I am talking about a programming error, not a philosophy. If you change the setting I am mentioning, nothing happens in the score. This is a program error, not a file error. The code is completely broken for that one setting slot. I didn't test all others, but I know this one is totally broken.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I had pdfs of files I created in v26.1. In the pdfs, the ties are fine. In v26.2, they are off.

Sooooooo... this is a BRAND NEW BUG! New to v26.2 Ouch!

Twas ever thus with a new version. :-(

I hope someone reports it right away (I think I'm out of warranty). Does anyone from MakeMusic monitor their support forum?

I don't think they pay too much attention to the official MakeMusic forum. I have now filed 2 support tickets. One for this tie bug, and one for the Grace Note "Keep Current" positioning feature, which is also newly broken. Those are HUGE bugs. I will keep looking at the 'other" forum for anything new.

Both issues (Horizontal Tie End for Under/Outer/Note and Keep Current for Grace Note Spacing) have now been fixed in the very recent release updater 26.2.1. I installed and checked the two aforementioned issues, So far so good.

My thanks to David Cusick and to the programming team for rolling this out so quickly.
