Howdy,

I have these blue bracket that have shown up on ALL my scores. Can someone tell me how to remove them (and only them)?

In the Staff Tool menu, pick Group and Bracket / Edit.

Thank you - this is a good lead!

Still just a part solution at this point -- how can I change the default to have these blue group names OFF when I create a new documents... or how can I remove them from all my documents at once?

If I understand you rightly, unchecking the following item under the Staff Menu may do what you want:
Show Default Staff Names • Show Default Group Names. Choose these commands to show or hide Finale's default names for unnamed staves and groups on-screen. When selected, the default names appear on the screen, enclosed in square brackets. When not selected, default staff names and their handles are hidden on-screen for unnamed staves, and group names (but not handles) are hidden on-screen.

From my messing about with it, it looks like this is not document-specific, so choosing it once should work for anything you pull up. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for pointing this out. This has mystified me for some time and there it was, right in front of me.
