I have a single regular size staff with a reduced size cue staff above it. I want to assign an expression to just the lower regular staff, and I want it to be the 100% size of that staff. When I assign an expression to that staff, it places itself in the cue staff and reduces the size, which stays reduced even if I drag it to the lower regular sized staff.
I can't find an instruction on how to do what I want in the manual. Any ideas that don't take 14 steps? thanks.

When you're applying the expression, notice which way the arrow on the cursor points; it sounds like you're pointing it at the wrong place. Try doing it from below rather than above.

Thanks, Mo. Nope, that's not it. It's a tempo alteration, which I guess, by default, is assigned to all staves. Should I just make another expression that looks like what I want but isn't a tempo alteration?
Thanks.

I'm guessing this is a tempo or style marking. These are assigned to a Staff List (Staff List 1) and automatically appear at the top of the score no matter what. You should make a new expression category by duplicating the present category, move a duplicate of the marking into this new category, and make a new Staff List (such as Staff List 2) to position it above whichever stave you want.

Ah, I see. In my opinion, rall. and the like should be on top, in which case you'd have to do something to keep it from being reduced, like a fixed font size (which has some drawbacks). I've also seen people add a phantom staff at the top for just such occasions, which is more trouble but would then work in all situations.

But for what you're asking, N's solution seems the easiest. I'm not sure it will play back correctly, though.

Thanks, N and Mo. I never use playback in Finale, but thanks for the help. I just edited an existing term in Misc. and used that. Worked fine. I appreciate the quick responses!
