Back in the early 1960's Herb Alpert was able to mimic the sound of multiple trumpets through the relatively simple tractic of playing "alongside" his recorded track, but just a touch out of synch. On early Tijuana Brass albums, the sound is almost identical to later albums when a real second trumpet (played by Tonni Kalash) did the job.
What I want to do is similar. I have two trumpets playing the same notes (for most measures), and I want it to "sound" like there are two. In the bars where the music lines separate, the two horns sound distinct from each other (they are EQ'd differently in GPO), but where they play in unison, the sound instantly devolves into a single note instead of two and any differences between the trumpets is lost, despite them being on different staves.
In a DAW, this can be solved by nudging one of the two tracks forward or back on the timeline, but in Finale, I don't think I can do this. IF it's possible, it would be great to be able to pull it off.
Has anyone tried?
I know Finale is not primarily to be used as playback, so this may simply not be possible, but if it is, I'd certainly make use of it.
Thots?
Might be a challenge...

I've done this before a long time ago, so I'm not 100% sure how to do it. I think it required setting up the staves to playback in 2 separate channels. This can be done through Score Manager. That might not be how I did it, but it's worth a try.
Now, I use Noteperformer on every project, which is a 3rd party sound library. Making it sound as if there are two trumpets is as simple as adding an expression with Noteperformer. I would recommend checking it out.

You could use two different trumpet sounds (on separate midi channels indeed), or even detune (very) slightly one of them (Expression -> Type -> Pitch Wheel).

You could also try using the midi tool in Finale and randomize the two trumpets in various ways (in different staves, as was suggested).
