I just upgraded from v2012c to v26 and am unable to get Finale to recognize my custom library files. Does the latest version not support library files created in v2012?

Be sure your custom library files have the file extension ".lib" added to the end.

If that doesn't work, go to your Finale 2012 and pick File > New > Document Without Libraries. Import one of your libraries into this file. Close the file, and open it with Finale 26. Save the library as usual. If all goes well, this regenerated library should be compatible with Finale 26. You'll have to repeat this procedure anew for each library you have.

Whenever I've upgraded versions the new edition is installed and the old one remains. Libraries and templates aren't normally ported over. Open Finale 2012, click on "Edit/Preferences/Folders." It lists the location of every folder (templates, libraries, etc.). Do the same in Finale 26 and then you only need to copy your custom 2012 files to the respective Finale 26 folders.

Does 32 bit vs 64 bit have any issue here? I have not tried it so I don't know.

Both methods worked. Thanks guys.

For some reason , I can now load into v26 library files that were created in v2012 that was not possible before.

Moreover, all my 32-bit libraries load OK into the 64-bit version of Finale.

But my 32-bit plug-ins do not work on a x64 system. So I downloaded some from Jari Williamson. While searching, I found a killer VST synthesizer called Tunefish, which is totally free and works nicely in Finale. I can now add nearly 1,000 usable instrument sounds to Finale, some which are absolutely beautiful. Each preset instrument sound is customizable, so the number is endless. Blimey! I feel like a kid at Christmas.

Libraries are just data files. Plug-ins are actual code. Bit-ness is only relevant to executable code.

Are you saying bit-ness applies only to executables? If so, why then do developers release their VST plug-ins in x86 and x64 versions? I must be overlooking something. None of my old plug-ins work in the 64-bit version of Finale. Only the x64 versions that I recently download and installed work. I would be thrilled to learn how to utilize the old ones. If you are able to able to use x86 plug-ins (*.dll, *.vst, vst3 or *.vsti) on a x64 system, please share how you managed to do so.

Cheers!

Because VSTs contain executable code.
