Hello - in Finale 25 using a Macbook Pro, I have been having issues lately in Simple Entry in Scroll View with the behavior of the caret. When I am entering music in Simple Entry/Scroll View, I would usually press the right arrow key after typing a note (say, on beat 1 of a measure), and a caret with a line will appear on the next available beat (say, beat 2 of the measure if I entered a quarter note). Instead, the caret is jumping forward several measures and not allowing me to progress through the current measure. This is very frustrating while trying to enter music, and I cannot find a solution anywhere online. Any help is appreciated - thanks.

You shouldn’t have to do that at all. After entering a note, the caret should automatically jump to the next note. In Simple Entry menu > Simple Entry Options, do you have Use Simple Entry Caret, checked?

I agree! This is a new issue that I am not used to having - I have used Finale for years. That particular box is checked - yes.

You should check and if necessary replace the Preference file. Here's how:

Thank you for the advice, but my issue still remains. I ended up putting my Old Preferences file back after following all those instructions. Any other suggestions are welcome!

I don't really understand this. That's not the way it works for me. If I enter a quarter note and press right arrow, it goes to the next measure. Are you saying that moving over one note is how it used to work for you? What happens if you don't press the arrow key, but just type another note?jhardesty7712 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 3:35 am[Normally] I would usually press the right arrow key after typing a note (say, on beat 1 of a measure), and a caret with a line will appear on the next available beat (say, beat 2 of the measure if I entered a quarter note).
