How do I get my score to scroll vertically without it moving horizontally?

From your description it sounds like you are scrolling by dragging in the document window (e. g. with the Hand Grabber Tool), right?

You can drag the vertical scroll bar in the right side of the document window.
When you do so, you will scroll vertically only.

Get a mouse or other pointing device with a scroll wheel.

On Windows PageDown and PageUp will do it. Is there not a Mac equivalent? Look through the Keyboard Shortcuts appendix in the manual.
