Any Mac user who has upgraded to Catalina may have noticed that there is now no easy way of playing MIDI files, unless you load them into a Logic or Garageband.

(The old QuickTime Player v7 is 32-bit; the new QuickTime Player X opens MIDI files, but won't actually play them! )

Anyway, if you want a lightweight app that will play MIDI files, I've written one, and you can download it here:

https://github.com/benwiggy/APPlayMIDI/releases

As an added bonus for Finale users, you can Copy any loaded MIDI file onto the clipboard, and then paste it into a Finale document using MIDI/Audio > MIDI Clipboard > Import MIDI from Clipboard.

It's scraping the limits of my programming abilities, but is mostly entirely boilerplate code, so shouldn't cause any trouble.

Thanks for that, BT. I’ve always used Sweet MIDI Player, but I’ll certainly give yours a try!
