Hello,

I am trying to create a quarter note triplet with one of the triplet notes equal to two eighth notes. I can do something similar with eighth note triplets (making one triplet note into two sixteenth notes), but when trying to do this with quarter notes, the system doesn't allow a second eighth note, and when clicking into the next measure the system assigns a 16th rest after the eighth. What is more entertaining is that if I replace that 16th rest with a 16th note, the system then adds a 32nd rest after, ad infinitum.

Your Google Drive pictures don't work for me. Which of the three quarters do you want broken into two eighths?

If you're using Speedy Entry key option(alt)-3, then enter a quaver (8th) to establish that it is a triplet of 8ths, then if you actually want the triplet to begin with a crotchet (quarter) put the cursor on this first note and change its value from an 8th to a quarter, then enter the rest of the triplet. This is quicker and simpler than the description might make it appear.

There's something a bit similar (I think) in Simple Entry, but I don't use it so better advice for Simple will come from someone else.

I'm guessing Simple Entry. Google Drive is a dog but I finally saw "Quarter Trips." That should be no problem. After entering the first quarter, press Alt-9 and make sure you select "3 quarters in the space of 2 quarters." Don't delete the rests that Simple Entry creates after you set up the triplet and it should work perfectly. Just enter your notes, switching to eighths with Keypad-4 for the last two.

No problems here. The only issue is the extraneous rest that occurs in the third sample. Just delete it.

I think you can get into trouble if you delete rests as you go along, before entering the next note. Sometimes this seems to cause Simple Entry to generate extra rests.

You could be right, about deleting midstream. I just wait until the triplet is done, arrow to the rest, and delete.

Thanks everyone. I was entering using simple entry before. I had tried Speedy entry without success earlier, as I didn't know the keyboard shortcuts for the note values (I had previously only used Speedy entry to show/hide items or to connect/break beams). And I tried again using Simple entry just now, with the same result, but have now figured out that it seems to only be an issue on the final triplet of the measure (which I didn't think about testing before, as it was the final triplet I was dealing with). I am able to make the eighths on the first triplet using Simple Entry, but not the second triplet. However, now that I know the keyboard shortcuts for the note values in Speedy entry, I can change the note values in the final triplet. Thanks a Bunch!!
