Articulation Metatool Issue

I just started having an issue with my articulation metatool.

If I'm in simple entry and press opt-a + metatool everything is fine. But if I'm in the articulation tool and try "metatool + click" or "metatool + drag select" the articulation selection dialog or apply articulation dialog comes up instead of assigning the articulation automatically. (to note, when the apply articulation dialog appears it is registering whatever metatool key I have pressed)

I have recently upgraded to Catalina (but long enough ago that this has been working fine for over a month) but I did get a dialog box stating a plugin needed updating or wouldn't continue working right before this started being a problem. I, of course, pay close enough attention to it and also can't recreate it so I'm not sure what to fix. However this isn't a plugin but part of the regular program so I'm confused. And if the metatools are working in simple entry I'm not sure what the problem is.

UPDATE: Metatools don't seem to be working for smart shapes or expressions either when trying to click assign.

Have you shut down the computer and restarted? If that doesn't help, check the Preferences and renew them if needed:

Sounds like a virtual stuck Shift key.

Yep. And as such, the restart should clear it up.
