I just learned about this note-mover capability on a downloaded quintet. When I tried Gb > F# search & replace all, Finale went into infinite loop, requiring that I shut it down. After experimenting with this disaster -- always resulting in shut-downs -- I finally found that it worked, not on the 5-staff score, but on individual parts. Then I wrote a default-doc duet so as to exclude download gremlins, and same thing. Is this natural behavior -- operate on only one staff at a time or disaster?

I have never had that behavior. However, anything is possible. If you can post a problem file here, maybe we can help troubleshoot the issue.

Attached, an experimental file. It is consistent -- on the score it hesitates for about 5 seconds, then the rotating death circle begins, and any key-press grays out the screen until ctrl-alt-del, but in the single-staff part it works instantly.
Also, in the score, if I escape before the circle of death starts, then the process stops and I can go on, but no changes are made. Once, I noticed that it did change one other Gb though.

I tried to select a line, but clicking Note Mover deselects it. And once Note Mover is invoked, I don't see how to select a line. One would think that when you select the measure and a note within the measure that you want changed, that that would be enough to indicate the line I want. But I have many trios, quartets, et al. -- shouldn't this work for all-staves-at-once?

That utility is archaic. It has always been difficult to use, and quite unintuitive. You'd be better off using Jari's JW Change Pitches plugin.

Thanks, zuill. I got the plug-in and it is exactly right. Thanks, Jari Williamsson!

Small world.

Just a note for future forum-seekers who wander here: I used the JW Change Pitches plug-in a few times, and it worked perfectly at first. Then it stopped working -- it turns out that it responds to concert-pitch note definitions, and since many of my pieces are transposed to F for French horn (4th down or 5th up), it couldn't find the notes I specified. But maybe it made some changes to notes that I didn't want changed. Live & learn.

If you put it in Concert View and do the change, that works. Maybe that is not the best scenario.montedoro44 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 6:42 pmJust a note for future forum-seekers who wander here: I used the JW Change Pitches plug-in a few times, and it worked perfectly at first. Thanks, zuill -- all is good, I can transpose between concert & F. It just took me a while to figure out that's what I need to do. Another revelation I stumbled on recently that fixed several vexing problems is that some operations work only in the score, not the parts.

No need to transpose to Concert Pitch.
Just use the Document menu:
Document menu > Display in Concert Pitch

Thanks, Peter, I know about Display in concert Pitch, and I've called on it once or twice for easier error fixing. But I've been a French-horn player for 60 years, and transposing comes with horn playing. OTOH, it was a transposing emergency in 2014 that propelled me to try Finale(Notepad). When it saved me, I bought in.
