This is something odd I've just noticed and I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered anything similar.

In a score of 410 systems, 315 pages nearly 1900 bars (all in one Finale file), created in 2012 in Finale 2010 and now opened in F 25, there appear to be three systems in which the woodwind group is missing (ie no barlines drawn through the group &c). They are not in sequence, but all early on (on pages 4, 16 and 26). This doesn't happen with the brass, strings, or percussion. I can see absolutely no reason why this should have happened. It shows in the print made in 2012 from F 2010 and not just when opened in F 25. (I haven't opened it in F 26 because of the numerous articulations.)

Many people have read the 2012 print of this score, me numerous times, but I've only just noticed this oddity. Now I have it looks annoying and strange, although I suspect few musicians who aren't regular copyists or engravers would notice anything amiss.

I'm making a few edits and corrections in anticipation of another print when lockdown is over. (“Isn't it awful? When will it all end?” as the late author Gavin Maxwell [of Ring of Bright Water fame] who died in 1969 aged only 54 was wont to complain.)

I wonder if there are other weird phenomena for which I should keep a lookout? (The score is far too big to upload to the forum.)

Am I safe to assume from the absence of any reply that experiencing this phenomenon is unique to me? If it's also unique to the specific file, I should probably forget about it (having corrected it).

It's just (no more) possible that my applying various Staff Styles to other groups within these three systems has done something strange, although there is plentiful use of such styles throughout the score, especially for percussion. Another possibility is that when I began this score I may have been displaying ‘defined’ rather than ‘actual’ bar numbers, which I know can cause all sorts of weirdnesses in a score of this kind.

Hard to say. The paradigm for groups has changed over the years. I don't recall when that happened. It could be something as simple as that. Are you able to fix the grouping manually in those places?

Yes, very quickly and easily, so if these are the only occurrences I don't need to worry too much.

PS I think the group paradigm changed in Finale 2011 or 2012, so being created in F 2010 the original file was before this change.
