Can someone help with this issue? Every time I create tuplets this happens. I still can't get over the fact that Finale hasn't fixed this simple tuplet problem....It's a 2/4 measure with 2 quintuplets with mixed 8ths and 16ths

Welcome to the forum!

There are several ways to create tuplets. What are your steps? - Simple Entry Tool? -Speedy Entry Tool? - or?

I do not get extra rests in your example (using the Speedy Entry Tool).

HI Peter!

thanks a lot for your reply! I use simple entry tool...I set up the quintuplet as my default tuplet and then fill the blanks. The result you can see from the image. Also sometimes inserting different subvision in an already established tuplet won't be accepted and need to erase all the xtra rests. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Are you deleting the rests after pressing 9? If so, try just entering the remaining notes without deleting anything (you'd think it wouldn't matter if you deleted the rests, but apparently it does). It works for me.

Hi Motet,

I tried many times and for whatever reason by doing that it shifts the rest outside the tuplets and it results in the image I attached in my original post...I'll try again. If I have problems I'll post my concerns again. Thanks!

Ah, your right--it does that with mouse entry. I was using QWERTY entry--maybe you can switch to that. There must be some key that corresponds to your 1-line staff (B?).

(It's bound to be much faster than the mouse, too!)

I can't advise you how to use Simple Entry, because I never use that myself. This is how I would do it in Speedy Entry: Press Ctr/Cmd 5 for quintuplet, enter the first note of the quintuplet as a sixteenth (which would automatically define the tuplet as a quintuplet of sixteenths), if necessary, go back to that first note and change it to an eighth, by pressing 4 in Speedy. The following notes in the quintuplet are entered just as they are meant to be.

In this way I never ever get any unwanted extra rests.

(In Speedy, the notes can be entered without a midi keyboard: enter the note values only, at first appearing as rests. Place the cursor at the desired pitch, and change the rests to notes with the enter key.)

Switching to the repitch tool might be easier if you're going to take that approach (no need to press Enter every time).

I think I found the solution for Simple Entry mouse entry. After entering the first note and defining the tuplet with the 9 key, delete only enough rests to leave the same number rests (independent of rhythm) as notes you're about to enter, even if there are four sixteenth rests and you're going to enter two eighth notes. This seems to eliminate the extra rests appearing outside the tuplet and the end of the bar.
