I've got a piece in simple ABA form, where the repeat of the A section is marked as a da capo al fine. I've set everything up so that playback goes back to the beginning and plays through to the Fine, just as it should. The problem is that the Fine is on the downbeat of measure 39, with the B section starting on the last beat of the same measure, and the playback plays the whole measure before stopping, so that it actually ends with the first chord of the B section instead of the last chord of the A section.

Two questions:

1) Can I get the playback to end on the downbeat of m. 39 using just the Fine of the repeat tool, or will this require setting up a one-measure coda that just has the first chord on the downbeat? I'd prefer to avoid this solution because the source does not have a coda, just a fermata on the downbeat to indicate the ending.

2) How can I search the forum for "d.c. al fine" without getting every message that says something like "now it's working fine again"?

I wonder if you could do it by treating that Fine measure as a split measure?

I am with Mike here:
Use the plug-in Split Measure, and choose a dashed barline at the Fine.

Thanks very much to you both. The split measure trick worked just fine.

I use a hidden expression (execute on pass x) to switch to MIDI channel 125.
