Hey everyone,
Reworking a former piece of mine I have stumbled upon an old an ever-so-frustrating bug in the original file which I haven't been able to remedy even though I've deleted the entire section in that instrument.
I'm talking about what appears to be a remnant of a smart shape, a straight glissando line that I'd used to connect two notes. Even though the notes have long disappears, the line still shows and is blown totally out of proportion, crossing out several staves and pages. I thought the linked part (saxophone) may be corrupt, so I deleted that, but that doesn't seem to help. The line only shows in page view, in scroll view you can't see it. Also, the pages concerned disappear upon scrolling or editing so that you need to re-draw the screen with cmnd+D after every single f***ng click. This is a nightmare, is there a fix to this? I'm attaching a screenshot of the probem, in my opinion it has clearly to do with the saxophone part, but it's only these couple of measures that are concerned. Also, the problem seemed to first have disappeared and now showed up again, I really don't know what to do.
I'd be more than happy and grateful if anybody had an idea on how to save the file...
Thanks so much in advance and all the best!
EDIT: ALSO I can't seem to add attachments, even with 300kb it says the file was too big... (if I make it smaller, one can barely see anything). Any hints?

I've seen SmartShapes stick around in the file after things have been deleted, but I've always been able to delete them by selecting their handles and pressing Delete.
Make sure you have Automatic Update Layout turned on.

Thanks for your quick reply, Zuill and motet!
@Zuill: The file would be even bigger than the screenshots, that I haven't been able to upload. I made a very shortened version (with 30% of the staves and only 10% of the measures), but even that seems to be too big, also the line seems to disappear – though the weird behaviour of having to re-draw the screen upon every action (even scrolling!) remains.
@Motet: Yeah, that's what I also thought and tried, no handles etc. I have had automatic update layout, comnd+u innumerable times, nothing changed.
The only thing so far: Delete the saxophone staff altogether... Then everything seems normal. So I guess the staff is corrupt. But that means I will have to copy around 400 measures...
Any other ideas?
Thanks again!

Hey everyone,
thanks for your replies. Good idea, here's a link of the (shortened) saxophone part: https://mega.nz/file/wb5yCQSZ#Z-8NmuoG3 ... sYEHq5SSsQ.
Layout is *****, but obviously I haven't worked on it yet. You'll see though how on page 5/6 the staves go AWOL and only reappear upon re-drawing the screen.
@motet: Yes, I think that's what I'll end up doing, if I don't find any other solution!
Thanks so much again!

That line is a Lyric Word Extension. I went to the Lyrics Tool and opened up the window and there are lyrics there. I'm sure you would know why they are there. The line is a Word Extension. Just turn off Smart Word Extensions and it will disappear. However, if the rest of the file has lyrics, this will turn it off globally. If lyrics are there and word extensions are needed, you might be able to delete lyrics from just this staff and the line should also go away. I don't see lyrics, but you would know where they are.
Zuill
Followup: I selected the top staff and, using Clear Selected Items, chose Lyrics. Once lyrics were cleared, the lines disappeared.

I found lyrics in measure 134c. When I delete them, the lines go away. It looks like you put a cue to the vocal there. Instead of using the lyric tool, make those lyric cues as expressions. Then delete the lyrics in bar 134c.

Hey,
thanks, that was amazing advice! I ended up deleting the cue note, you were obviously right, this didn't need to be an actual lyrics entry. That took care both of the line and the re-drawing issue. Let's hope it stays like that.... But I choose to be optimistic. Thanks so much!
