Hi, couple of quickies: 1) for a piece in 6/8, I'd like the eighth notes to be beamed in 2's, not individually.....how do I do this? 2) used to know this, but forgot: How do I move bars around, such as when all of a sudden there's one measure all by itself on a line that needs to go up or down to look right. Thanks!

Do you want this in a measure or two, or throughout the entire piece?

Do you mean two sets of three per measure, or three sets of two?

If it's just a measure here and there, in Speedy you can break or make a beam with /

If you want it all the way through, make the time signature ¾ but set it to display 6/8 instead.

To move a measure to previous or next systems, on a Mac, select the measure and tap the up arrow or down arrow keys. On Windows, you may meed a modifier key along with the arrows.

HI, yes, sorry, this is a Windows 10 PC. As far as the beaming, I'd like 3 sets of 2, and yes, I'd like it that way throughout the piece....but I'm saying that as someone who is used to "commercial"/jazz/latin-style charts....where eighth notes are almost always written in pairs.....since I'm writing this for a classical flutist/pianist, maybe I should just leave it as is....?

Okay, so for the moving measures around issue: I experimented and I've got it: select---Control+down up/arrow does the trick. Though I consider what I'm doing as sort of Mickey Mouse at this point....I'd like to learn to setup the parts so they don't create "orphan" measures.

Sorry, one more quickie: I would like to adjust the size of the score on my screen, I looked it up (I never post here without trying to find the answer first in the manual and online) and it says Document--page format--score-- "scale page to".....but changing the percent on page size does nothing.

Here's what you need to do for your time signature. If you've already entered music, use Utilities/Rebeam/Rebeam Music after setting up the new time signature.

doesn't setting the time signature to 3/4 achieve the exact same result as setting it to 2+2+2/8?

I guess so, yes. Doesn't hurt to be explicit, though.

The settings in Page Format for Score will affect all new pages.

Already existing pages are not affected.
This is by design, and what users have requested.

To update already existing pages, switch to the Page Layout Tool, and go to
Page Layout menu > Redefine Pages > …

You really can’t. Different pieces will have different number of notes per measure, measures per staff, staves per page, and the like. That’s where the brain comes into play, working these out.

Fair enough.....I'm dealing with it as I go, and it's fine. You're right: Finale doesn't know when I'm using half notes, then all of a sudden there's a mass of wild 32nd note blackness that takes up half a page.

Everyone, this is GREAT stuff....I'm acting on everything you said. Can I add another quick question or two? Or should I post separately? This is fantastic for me, but I realize it's not a chat group. fwiw: my question is how do I maximize volume on playback??? I turn everything up in the mixer, but it's still so soft....(and yeah, everything else on my computer plays nice and loud.)

Many of us find it easier to work in scroll view, until all of the notes are entered. Then, return to page view to deal with layout.
