I am transcribing an early nineteenth century piece, and the string parts contain endless repeated quavers generally notated as minims with a single horizontal stroke through the stem (tremolo symbol). At times these minims have four staccato strokes above them to indicate that each of the four quavers should be performed staccato. How can I insert multiple staccato strokes over a single minim in Finale? I have tried using layers and then hiding the notes in the second layer, but when I do that the staccato strokes are hidden as well.

Instead of using four {font character} articulations I would use a single shape articulation with four dots.

In the Default File there are already shape articulations with two dots and three dots.
You could duplicate the {three dots} version, and edit the duplicate.

I've had occasion to do this and am happy to share. If you copy one of the measures from this document into yours and then clear the measure, the articulation should remain.
