I have a client asking if there is a way to shift a staccato mark vertically slightly more away from a note. The note is treble C, so the staccato mark is in the "E" space. If I try to drag up, the dot immediately jumps above the staff, where I then have fine control over its position.

Is there a way to have this same fine control while remaining within the staff?

Thanks!

If you double-click the staccato box you get the articulation designer and you have some options that might help, such as unclicking Avoid Staff Lines and unclicking Always Place Outside Staff.

Thanks so much Bill. Very helpful. I think you're onto something here (and I wasn't aware of this shortcut). However, it unlocked ALL the staccato marks for the entire 63 page score, moving tons of other markings where I didn't want them. Bummer.

However, I WILL be able to use this solution in other projects, so thanks again!

You can create a duplicate Staccato for just some spots, and use that. Leave the other Staccato for the rest of the score.

That took me a sec to understand, but that’s brilliant. Thank you!

Worked perfectly and easily. Thanks to you both. Client will be very happy, as I had told him I wasn't sure it could be done.

:D

Gratefully yours,
