I have in the attached file a passage where the melody (F# F# A A D) is played first with left hand, then right hand. That's the given. Is there possibly another way to indicate the voice-leading (and retain the LH/RH) without the cluttery diagonal line that I have put in? Thanks.

Why are you putting the D in the upper staff? I would just keep it in the lower staff. Also, the right hand doubles the LH A in bar 2 in the 16th note group, so that can be messy. Same with that last D.

It's a transcription. The D is in the upper staff because the lower A in the LH is required, and can't be played together by one hand.
Yes, there is some messiness as you put it but eliminating the double notes changes the original sense of the composition. If you saw the original piece you would see what I mean.

Possibly this is what Zuill had in mind, and it's a little clearer:
Voice on same staff.PNG
The A in both hands could be solved with some use of pedal while leaving the note in the left hand. Depending on what sound you want.

From what I understand, the L-shaped bracket is not available in Finale itself. Correct?

Custom Line Tool. Duplicate the one there and edit the definition to NOT be horizontal.

Just an additional comment: I noticed that you had made the slur for the change of fingers as a smart shape slur. I made it as a shape expression. The benefit of that is that you could use the same shape in all similar places.

Quite possibly there are such tiny slurs ready-made in one font or other, but I'm afraid I can't tell you where.

There is an undertie in Finale Lyrics font. This was a quickie, done in lyrics; the 4, 3 hard spaces, and the 1. Undertie as expression. 24 pt fixed.

But doing it all as expressions is better, so it can go wherever you want.

That works but it sure is finicky.

I'm not shure it's that finicky. In Smart shapes choose the Custom line subtool and ctrl-click it (in Windows):
Smart line selection.PNG
Then edit the line by unchecking 'horizontal'.
Custom line edit.PNG
If you hold shift and drag vertically down you will have the shape in the example.
There's another way if you want the hook turned the other way, but it's quite logical.

I didn't know about the shift/drag. That helps a lot! Thanks.
