In some files, when I try to create a text block in the Text tool by double-clicking, I'm not given the cursor to type text and there is no evidence that a text block has been created. If I press Escape and then come back to the Text tool, then I see a handle indicating an empty block, and I can use the handle to finally enter text. (Normally, Escape without typing anything would result in no text block being created.)

It seems to be related to having parts and having inserted a blank page in a part somewhere (I occasionally do this to facilitate page turns), but I'm having trouble reproducing the bug in a fresh document.

Anyone else seen this?

I don't recall ever seeing that. If you happen to have a file with this behavior, maybe we should test it for ourselves.

Here's a file which exhibits the problem. I think it began happening when I inserted a blank page before page 3 in the Oboe part.

Definitely buggy behavior. I would bring this to the attention of the MakeMusic folks.

The problem seems to be generated by the Flute Part, not the Oboe Part.

You're right. If all I do is insert a blank page in the Flute part after creating a woodwind quintet with the setup wizard--no need to add extra measures--then the Text tool has this bad behavior in every other part and score. I guess it's confused about which page it's on.

I reported it. This seems like a pretty serious bug, since the Text tool appears not to function at all, and most users are not likely to discover the work-around.

"Snafu". That one was new to me. Fortunately Google helped me out before I got into a serious snafu.

I think it originated in the U.S. military.

And don't forget its handy companion: FUBAR.

I reported this and they acknowledged it today. In confirming something for them I also noticed that all the other text handles on the page disappear when the bug manifests itself. The MM guy pointed out that Ctrl-U brings them back.
