Hello all,

On my own MacBook (2019, running F26) and the one I owned before it (2012, Fin 2012 through F25), I am able to enable "quick playback" of the audio by holding down the spacebar and clicking where I want the audio to start (instead of using the full playback utility).

A student recently purchased F26 on his own MacBook, and we cannot get the quick playback to replicate for him. When he depresses the spacebar and clicks on a measure, it merely selects the measure and does not begin playback (clicking outside of the measure is no use either).

He is also not able to "scrub" across the music as I can (Option+ spacebar + move cursor icon across the music).

Is there some option to enable this? I never had to do it with any installation of Finale, but am trying to eliminate possible causes. He can use the full playback mode without a problem, so it is not an audio output issue.

Take a look in the Window menu.

* Is the window {Playback Controls} on or off?

That just affects the full playback window...on my machine, I have it turned off by default (playback window hidden) and am still able to do quick playback as well as scrubbing, etc. If I have the window showing and I hit the spacebar it goes through the whole playback rigamarole, which is fine, but I usually like to do "quick hits" of the music i am working on. I only turn on full playback when I need all of the human playback bells and whistles...

Sorry, I was not clear.
I was not asking about your machine, but rather about the student’s “recently purchased F26 on his own MacBook”.

It's off on his. When we turn it on, we get the full playback window (it plays the music just fine), we just can't get his to do quick playback, strangely enough. I've been going through his keyboard shortcuts on various tools to see if something is set differently than mine, but so far no dice...

If your student hasn't tried rebooting the computer, do that. If that doesn't fix it, follow these instructions:

He's using Mojave. That shouldn't be an issue, though...when I was using Mojave, I was still able to do quick playback (in fact, I've been using it since whenever version it was introduced, sometime in the early 2000s I think, maybe earlier). I've been on a Mac since 2007, and have never had an issue of it not playing back. So odd...

Alas, we did this and did not help. I'm starting to think it has something to do with the settings on his laptop somehow...there must be something that is preventing it that isn't in Finale itself.

I don't think Finale 26 and Mojave are compatible, but I don't know what parts of Finale are not supposed to work.

This is from the Finale web-site: ‘Finale v26 is considered compatible and is fully supported with macOS 10.14 Mojave.’ My experience is that it is indeed fully compatible.
