Hi all,
I set up a vocal score in the wizard which automatically puts the dynamics above the vocal stave.
Where should I look to revert that option so that dynamics will automatically go under the staff as per a normal instrument?
Cheers and thx,
Hector.

Hi Hector,
I prefer to arrange the dynamics in vocal scores above the system and place the vocal text below. In instrumental compositions the dynamics are always below. But this is also the usual way, in my opinion.

Settings for categories can be made that apply to the placement of expressions above or below the staff. Those can be changed in the Category Designer.

If you need dynamics sometimes above, sometimes below the staff, you could duplicate the dynamics category and change the default position in the new category. Then you can use the appropriate category each time you enter a dynamic.

Thanks for this advice. I've adjusted the category and am back in action. Normally, I put the dynamics above the staff for vocals, but on this occasion the score is entirely "a bocca chiusa" and when I had a quick look at how Puccini notated it, sure enough he puts the dynamics below. Or at least his editor at G. Ricordi decided to do it that way... I hope that the "below" positioning will not be too unusual for the vocalists. It does seem to make sense from an editing point of view.

What is this? Butterfly I'm guessing. If you put something like ppp under the staff for singers they are likely to sing "ppp" so it sounds like a playing card in the bicycle spokes. But it's worth a try.
