I recently upgraded to v.26 (with your help--thank you!)----now I cannot save my new file. Whenever I try to 'save as' I get the message "File not found. Check the file name and try again". I never had this problem with my old 2004 version. Please help!

When you installed, did you make sure all the folders were set up properly in Preferences? One thing to do is to create a new folder for your temp files and then navigate to that folder while in preferences, and select it. Also, regularly clean out those temp files (only when Finale is NOT open) to make sure you keep things clean for Finale. It has trouble with temp files if you don't help it out.

It is paramount to tell Finale where things are. My case, I bought a new laptop so I had to deauthorize Finale 26 on the old laptop and reauthorize it on the new laptop. All is well on the new laptop. However, my Finale 2014.5 on the old laptop stopped working. It couldn't save. It couldn't finds the fonts . Nothing. Why? I don't know but after telling 2014 where all the folders were it now works again as it did. All I had to do was go into preference and select each folder again. The exact same folders but now it works. Go figure.

...I get the message "File not found. Check the file name and try again".
BTW, in your case I think your temp file folder is messed up. Did you delete it while Finale was open? Make sure Finale knows where the temp folder is.

I in fact didn't initially make sure my folders were set up, so today in preferences I selected the finsave.tem folder, but it didn't save (same old msg). So I created a new temp folder and set that up thru preferences. Still doesn't work...same msg. Hmm. Any other suggestions? ebiggs, I had not previously deleted the temp folder, but clearly something is messed up. I'll keep trying...

You did try "save as"? Beyond that I have no more solutions or suggestions. You are sure all folders are set up correctly?

Oh, I might say a total uninstall and reinstall might clear it up. I know that won't help this time but it may fix it for next time. Can you print what you have so it can be recovered?

Yes, I tried 'save as'. As far as I can tell all the folders are set up correctly. Are you aware of how I can tell if they're not? I may have to uninstall-reinstall...ugh. As far as my current music, I won't be losing much at all. Hmm. I'll exhaust other attempts before uninstalling-reinstalling.

Look in the documentation under preferences. The section about Folders is way down the page. See if there is anything there that might help. Also, did you say you regenerated your preferences? I usually back up my preferences file first, then recreate them. That might help.

Not really sure what you mean by regenerate my preferences. Do you mean to just retype them? I did set up a new temp folder and selected that. Before that I tried choosing the previous temp folder (finsave.tem). I've never before done anything with folder preferences so this is new to me. I used to simply save new music to documents without any problem.

I did set up a new temp folder and selected that.
Setting up a new, different, temp folder will not help this current situation. In fact it will hurt it. Finale is looking for a temp file that is not there. Finale can't find it because that temp file isn't in the new folder. That is why you can't save.
I really don't think you have any more options at this point. However, if any of the suggestions the others have given you work please share them. I'd like to know just in case.

Save as XML is often suggested. I am strongly suggesting creating a unique folder for temp files for future work. It might be too late for this file.

It has helped...like Zuill said to export my file as MusicXML. But there a numerous steps I had to take, per this article, so it's cumbersome:

So far it has helped... but isn't ideal. BTW, this problem is with my Dell laptop. I have no problem on my Lenovo pc.
