I was trying to create drum rhythmic cue and did the following:
Method 1:
There's place above the ledger line that shows "rhythmic cue". I entered the rhythm there. -> move it to layer 2 -> select layer 1 and show active layer only -> change the notation to slash notation, supposedly for layer 1. -> show all layers. And the rhythmic cue disappeared. So it seems that choosing the notation type is for all the layers.
Is there other way around?
Method 2:
I followed the instruction https://www.finalemusic.com/blog/quick- ... hmic-hits/ and tried to create the rhythmic cue for drums. However, after I selected layer 2 and inputs notes there, the notes won't show on the staff.

Help please! Thank you!

In the definition for Slash Notation, under Alternate Notation, you need to check the box for showing notes in other layers.

So I was trying to change the note head of the drum rhythm cue. And it won't let me do it. Please see the attached picture.
What went wrong? Thank you!

You change that in the Percussion Layout.

Yeah, it was doing my head in making a drum chart that I couldn't change the noteheads just to slashes (sometimes it's better to have 'hits' than meticulously restrict yourself to one version for hits that you keep returning to and want to encourage variation) without them disappearing.

It's so rare for me to use Finale without at some (or several) points screaming - what genius programmer thought, "Yeah, that's most likely thing a user wants when changing noteheads - for them to disappear altogether." I have a constantly expanding doc of how to deal with the endless Finale inanities. Now I've added these two paragraphs:
In drum chart changing to slash notation will make the notehead disappear altogether unless
 For the whole chart you toggle staff, then staff/edit staff attributes/alternate notation/settings/rhythmic notation/other layers – tick show ‘notes
 If just wanting to do part of a chart (or even part of a bar), highlight the notes (click and drag starting below and after last note, drag backwards) toggle staff, then right-click selection – pick desired note head.
