Lyrics Tool type into score and click assignment stopped working

I've been working on an SATB piece with piano accompaniment, doing a lot of editing, and suddenly the Lyrics tool doesn't work--I can't click assignment or type lyrics into the score. I erased all the lyrics and re-entered them in the lyrics window to start again, but both click assignment and type into score still don't work. Any ideas what happened and how I can get these functions working again? I can't post the file. Thanks.

Hi, Mike. Just closed out of Finale and opened it again, and now both of those Lyrics Tool functions are working again. I was about the report this when I saw your note. Thanks. Did you hear my big sigh of relief?

I realize this is an old post but I cannot see any answers. After clearing some lyrics and attempting to add new lyrics, I have just experienced the same problem. Is there a solution?

In my case "click assignment" does not work for some bars but still work for others. Maybe some notes still think they have a previous assigned lyric?

Ah. A computer restart didn't fix it. But after a few minutes delay (while I was writing this email, Finale was still open ) it did start it to work.

All the bars which were not accepting click assignment are now accepting click assignment. So I can work again!!

In "suddenly stopped working" situations, the things to always try first are

1) Quit Finale and restart; if that doesn't fix it
2) Reboot your computer

Strangely in this case the restart and the reboot didn't work - but what did work was waiting a few minutes...

I know that most "modern" computer programs (windows, mac stuff, linux, finale, word, ...) tend to leak memory. As time goes by, the memory fills up with holes that are too small to get used. This shouldn't happen but with many people working on the same program, things are overlooked. It's probably NP-Complete to figure out if a system doesn't leak memory or even meet specs.

Restarting Finale (or whatever) and rebooting the computer help. Many programs rely on the cold-boot software to fix problems (though the programmers may not even know they are doing this.)
