Hello Fabulous Finale Forum Helpers,

I imported a midi file for source material in the attached file, and I can't change the tempo at all. I'm not having trouble with any other files in Finale. I don't think it is relevant, but I don't have a midi device of any kind currently connected to my computer. I couldn't find anything helpful in the Finale manual. (They sure do make it difficult to leave feedback on the manual!)

Here is what I've tried:

Adding an expression that has a set tempo - such as Allegro quarter = 120
Changing the tempo in the box
Copying the data from this file to a new file
Deleting anything I can find that seems to be related to midi. Clearing everything I can find that has the word midi or tempo or playback.
Going under advanced tools, midi. Click midi tool drop down. Edit tempo. Select all, set to: 120. I'm not sure what this tool does, because it does not change the tempo, and erases whatever number I put in - the next time I look at it, it is reset to zero. I tried it on a working file, too, and it does not change the tempo and also resets to zero.

This was supposed to be a bit of fun fluff, but it has become a puzzle!

Select all, Edit/Clear selected items. First click the None button, then check the MIDI Data box. Click OK.

I just tried that, but it didn't work. Any other thoughts?

I attached the file to the original post (I was editing it while Zuill was commenting that I'd forgotten it.)

I can change the tempo in this file to whatever I want. So, what is the tempo you want? Since it's in 6/8 time, you probably want it to be dotted quarter = (amount).

P.S.: I've revised your file and attached it.

I just tried [Motet's suggestion], but it didn't work. Any other thoughts?
I tried it on your file and it worked (I then changed it in the playback controls). Maybe you did something wrong.

I have no explanation for this, but it started working normally again. Your revised file worked, my old file worked. I even opened an older draft version of the file, where I hadn't cleared the midi data as suggested, and it worked, too.

So odd, since all my other files worked fine all along, but all versions of this piece were not working.

Thanks for the help! Sorry to trouble you for a vanishing bug.
