I've begun writing a bossa nova but I started with 4/4. Since a bossa is written in 2/4 I need to change from 4/4 to 2/4 and halve the note values at the same time, if possible. I searched for time scaling but that only gave me te MIDI Tool which doesn't seem to be the right way to go. Any suggestions?

A Combination of Jari's JW Meter and Rhythm and Change Durations is how I do it. Come to think of it, just change to 2/4 without rebar, then change note durations by 50%.

Two steps:

1) Selection Tool.
Select All.
Utilities menu > Change > Note Durations…
Change all note durations to 50 % of original duration.
Do NOT rebar (= de-select Rebar music).

2) Time Signature Tool.
Double-click the first measure.
Number of Beats: 2
Beat Duration: Quarter
Do NOT rebar (= do NOT select Rebar Music).

I looked again and JW Meter and Rhythm does it all in one step. Relative Meter Change/Half Meter. All done.

Thanks for the tip! Haven't got that plug-in yet but it seems interesting.

I know this thread hasn't been active, but I feel it should be mentioned:

If you are changing note values in a piece with multiple layers, or containing whole rests, be sure to first do the following:
Select entire piece
Go to
Plug-ins/Note, Beam, and Rest Editing/Change to Real Whole Rests
Do it. Then go to
Plug-ins/Note, Beam, and Rest Editing/Check Region for Durations
Otherwise you may well find notes shifted due to incomplete bars or automatic whole rests which must first be converted to real whole rests!
