This is a new problem that never happened previously. Suddenly my Cautionary Accidentals come up with parenthesis even though I don't have it checked. Sometimes it doesn't work at all and I get no cautionary accidentals even though they're obviously needed. And further, sometimes the only way I can get the cautionary accidentals to show, I have to check "Freeze Accidentals" but suddenly I got accidentals on every note even though I had checked "No Cautionaries on Repeated Notes. In other words, the command seems to be random. I have Finale 25 on High Sierra. I looked it up online and it seems this is an old problem with the parenthesis. When the accidentals appeared on every note, I didn't notice until the next day after a few saves and the only way to get rid of them was to go over the score and shift* all of them. Has anybody else had this problem?

We need more info.
Are you creating the cautionary accidentals yourself, manually?
Or are you using the plug-in Canonic Utilities?

I'm using the plug-in Cautionary Accidentals. It seems to respond randomly, sometimes working normally and sometimes not doing anything at all and sometimes putting multiple accidentals in the same measure when only one is needed. I have High Sierra and Finale 25. I'm afraid I'll have to end up going through the score and doing the cautionary accidentals manually but the Cautionary Accidentals function from the plug-in always used to work!

Well, I'll be darned! It seems to work. You saved me from dumping my preferences and trying to fix it that way. Fingers crossed that it continues. I'll put this in my journal of Finale Fixes. Thanks!

I've never quite understood the term, but I think "auto-freeze" or "freeze" is essentially the definition of cautionary, so you definitely need that. (I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong).

Yes, I noticed it didn't work when I didn't click "auto freeze." And you're right, their definition for "auto freeze" was that it was like auto freeze in the speedy menu, which didn't tell me much. I guess as long as the right things are checked even if they don't make sense, it works.
