I wrote a short chaconne-style piece and I'd like to add some of the flourishy-type things....sorry for my lack of the right term.....when I listen to that style/era, it's highly "ornamental," for lack of a better word....how do I add those notes to melodic sections? So in other words, let's say the melody note is an A. The embellishment is a rapid A/B/A. Hope that's clear, and I look forward to learning not only how to do it, but the right terminology.

There are a number of articulations that trigger various ornaments when using Human Playback. I believe the manual gives you a list and at least a short description, or at least the ornament name.

It is characteristic for the Baroque style that those ornaments are improvised; you do not play the same ornaments again every time.
Typically you would play fewer ornaments the first time, and more ornaments on the repeat.

Hence you do not notate the ornaments with “written out notes”.
Instead you notate a symbol at the note.
In the Finale Default Document there are ready made Articulations for Baroque ornaments.

As Zuill points out, Human Playback knows many of these articulations.
This means that Human Playback can interpret them.

I selected "Baroque" for HP. I have no clue which articulations are appropriate from the articulation tool.....they do not even name what each articulation is....(am I missing something?) What are these "baroque" articulations in the default doc??

As always, I check the manual.....found nothing about "baroque" articulations.....

Here is a good place to start on musical ornamentation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ornament_(music)

More specifically baroque: http://www.bachmusicology.com/?page_id=155

If you dive deeper, be prepared for a very deep hole! :D There have thousands of PhD thesis' on the topic and proponents can get quite passionate in their opinions.

Chris

There are quite a few net resources and even more in libraries. (One of my Mom's friends during college did her doctoral dissertation on baroque ornamentation.)
