Splitting parts
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
On a conductor's score the flute part has 1st and 2nd flutes on the same staff. Is it possible to separate them when extracting parts so that you get a 1st flute part and a 2nd flute part?

One way is with Voiced Parts. With simple music it works well. In some more complex scores, there can be issues. I have workarounds with Staff Styles for those situations, but most users just give up and get frustrated.

The Voiced Parts business is half-baked.
I always advise putting the two flute parts (e.g.) on separate staves for the linked parts--that way you can easily control exactly what's in the parts--then combining them on a new staff toward the end of the project for use in the score (the printed score need not contain every staff). This also lets you put cues in the parts without worrying about them appearing in the score, or having them in one part and not the other. It also lets you put "a2", "Iº", etc. in the score.
It's relatively easy to combine them with Finale's "implode" function or the plug-in "JW Staff Polyphony."
It also saves you from forgetting which layer you're in putting things in the wrong layer.

You're exploding into a new staff or staves, right? You need to set the staff transposition of the new staff to Eb before exploding. If that's not what you're doing, maybe post an example.
