Hey everyone,

there is this issue I've been encountering for a while now, but since it has repeatedly caused with the performers, I'd like to finally get rid of it.

I work a lot with the function of displaying bracketed/courtesy accidentals (which I replace by microtonal accidental symbols, but that's not the point here.) Sometimes it happens that when I replace an accidental by its bracketed/microtonal equivalent at the beginning of a measure (by pressing P in simple entry) and the alteration is valid for the rest of the measure, the following notes make the accidental reappear although the general setting is that accidentals are valid for the entirety of the measure. I can't seem to find a rule or a principle that could be at the root of this.

I've attached a photo of a non-corrected measure. In the first bar it works like it's supposed to, in the second, it's doing its weird thing.

Anybody any ideas?

Thanks so much in advance!

Are you using the Cautionary Accidentals plug-in? There is an option "No cautionaries on repeated notes" - be sure that's checked.

Long ago this happened to me as a result of the plug-in. I'm not sure why. For a long time the plug-in has been problem-free with the settings shown below.

Somehow the notes are getting "frozen." In addition to fixing them manually, you could clear all frozen accidentals and start over.

Thanks motet for your quick reply!

I had never consciously used that plug-in but turns out the settings were pretty much the same as yours in the screenshot, including "no cautionaries on repeated notes". I replicated your settings but nothing changed. Does the plug-in apply to the whole document or only to a selected measure?

Also, could you maybe explain your last sentence, I didn't quite get what you mean.

Thanks so much!

"Frozen" is Finale jargon. Basically, it's what forces a cautionary accidental to appear. Just running the Cautionary Accidentals plug-in won't clear the frozen state. You might try clearing all frozen accidentals and rerunning the cautionary accidentals plug-in, though I hesitate to suggest that since you're doing something here with your microtonals that I don't really understand. Perhaps someone who does can suggest a solution.

The Canonic Utilities plugin has a feature for unfreezing frozen accidentals. So does Jari's JW Change plugin. I have no idea if microtonal accidentals are recognized by these plugins.

Thanks so much motet for your the clarification and zuill for the contribution!

Both plug-ins work miracles, it's exactly what I needed, huge thanks! I would have never found out by myself. Wonderful :)
