This surely has come up before but I ran into it for the first time today. As an example:

m. 1 is 4/4
m. 2 is 5/4
Make a first and second ending with mm. 1 and 2 as the first ending.

The first ending bracket breaks over the 5/4. Of course it's not a big deal to drag the bracket handle across the offending gap. Can I assume this is a known issue and doesn't need to be reported?

This is actually the design Finale uses. First endings are divided into 2 pieces. This is because sometimes they span several measures, and you may not want the line the whole way, especially if it is divided between 2 systems. Manually overlap them when there is a gap, and you're good to go.

Okay, I get it -- a "Finale Feature".

Not a big deal. Just something I had never bumped into in my decades of Finale use. Nothing fancy on this one -- I was notating one of the many banjo tunes I have written during Covid.

Thanks for this answer, and all your answers.

If you use my "Perfect Layout" plug-in, open gaps on first ending brackets will be automatically closed.
See pages 29 (Before)/30 (After) in the PDF Example Collection from https://elbsound.studio/perfect-layout/examples.php
