If I change a font in the Category Designer and then click OK it's still Times New Roman that applies. To make sure that I would see a difference I also made it bold. I would expect all Technique Text in the document to change, but it doesn't. What am I missing?

Are they set to "Ignore category settings"?

When you go back to the category designer, does it still say Times New Roman?

No, it's the font and style I chose.

I tried once more, now it seems to work. Does one have to wake it up?

The symbol C5 works but not the one with a | through it.

I suggest that you attach a (small) Finale .musx document here.
If we have an actual Finale .musx document to examine, then I am confident that we can find the culprit.

Ok, I'll do that tomorrow. It's late here and I'm soon going to bed.

Here's an example. The first measure contains a C5 Expression with Toledo 18 Bold. The second measure is impossible to make look the same. In the Expression Designer the box "Use Technique Text Category Fonts" is checked and the font is the one selected in the Category Designer, that is Toledo 18 Bold.

But, since this is not "text" but a "shape", maybe it won't work?

What would the solution be in that case? Building my own shape from scratch?

You've come up with your own answer. Changing the category font does not affect Shape Expressions. You'll need to go into the Shape and edit the font there. Did you create the Shape Expression yourself?

P.S.: If I had the Toledo font, I would update your file to show what I mean, but I don't.

Okay, thanks!

I didn't create the Shape Expression. Those half capos are in the Finale set.

Unfortunately you just can't change the font in the shape designer because the C, 5, and line are all separate and it doesn't look good if the font is enlarged. If I were you, I think I'd make an expression with a vertical line (font character) that you can add to the unlined symbols where needed. With some trouble tinkering with handle offsets, it can be made such that things can be applied with a metatool with no manual adjusting necessary.

If you Ungroup the 3 items, you can enlarge the C and the 5, position them where needed, and then adjust the length, thickness and position of the line. After that, you can then Group them again.

So, it is doable, and in so doing, can use the desired Toledo font.

Zuill

P.S.: I adjusted the Shape using the Arial Font, Bold, as I don't have Toledo. I saved a bit of trouble for myself by changing the font first. I then ungrouped, adjusted the positioning and line, and then regrouped.

Right, but a much bigger chore than changing the font if there's more than one or two to do. I'm not sure why they didn't make "C5" one text string and "|" another; then a simple font change might have worked.

But using two expressions, as I suggested above, seems like a small price to pay to avoid the shape designer.

Good to know, thanks! I'll see what method suits me best then.

I feel like exchanging some of the metatools if necessary, if all keys are occupied. That way I can have a set especially for (classical) guitar. There's some work to do with this method so guess it'll be a now and then project.

Another option is to use the term 1/2 C5 since there also is 4/6 C5, for example. That way I can just change the font. On the other hand I don't know if other expressions in that group will look good with those settings. In that case it's maybe better to make a new custom set.
