Finale 25.5 (Mac) freezes maybe almost once day, so I have auto-save set to 5 minute intervals, which I have often been very glad of. However, it means that I am constantly interrupted by the save operation, which halts the program for a few seconds. Is there any way to avoid this? Thank you.

Another option is to turn it off and save manually as often as you want. That way, the Save happens when you want, rather than in the middle of an edit. I know that can be dangerous, but it solves the interruption in the middle of an operation. I often save multiple versions of a file at various stages of a project, as after note input before adding markings, or before adding lyrics, or before formatting parts. That way I have a major project stage that I can go back to in the event of a major disaster (excluding floods or tornadoes).

I have autosave set at 15 minutes, but then Finale seldom crashes or freezes. It might be worth trying to get to the bottom of the freezes. Have you tried resetting preferences, and the temp directory change?

I find autosave annoying if I have several files open. It saves them even if no change has been made. It could be smarter about that.

For some time now I've been using ForeverSave2 https://toolforcesoftware.com/foreversave/ in preference to Finale's own auto save. It seems to work extremely well (for me at least).

I haven't had a Finale freeze for a long time except sometimes with playback, which is peripheral for me, so not too much of a nuisance.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I do constant manual saves, but you know how it is, if you forget, you are very glad auto-save is on.

The freezes happen during a particular sequence of events leading up to very quickly selecting a measure that I haven't been able to work out. Or the program seems to "lose focus" and freezes when I move momentarily to a file from another program like Acrobat.

ForeverSave2 looks great, except they say are not selling it at the moment.

Oh dear, yes I see ForeverSave 2 has been ‘removed from sale’. I've sent them an e-mail to ask why &c and will report back when I get a reply.

I haven't heard back from them yet, but in the meantime I think you may (not sure) be able to download and use the free trial version if you click on that button and then license it in due course. From what I can see there may not be a version for Mac OS later than 10.14. I expect this may be the problem, but I await a reply to my e-mail.

John Ruggero,

A little Off Topic:

According to your forum signature (= below each of your posts) you have Finale v25.5.

But your Forum Profile (= on the right, below your picture) states an earlier Finale version.

My guess is that your Forum Profile needs an update.

Thanks, Peter. It's a misprint. I will correct it.
