Hi all,
i was wondering if in your opinion "Ped." should be italic as in Finale pre-defined expressions or not and same thing about una corda and tre corde.
Also i was wondering if n.13 and 14 in custom smart lines are the correct symbols for pedal change (and not half).
And very last question, if I have accidentally edited a pre-defined smart line if i open a new project if it is reset to default or not.

thanks very much :)

If I understand you correctly, you see a problem with pedal notation in italics.
You feel that the style should be plain, regular, vertical - right?

My personal shot at it:

1) In music notation there are certain items that never appear “italicized”.
These items have in common that they are closely related to the note layout:
- Stems
- The vertical lines in accidentals: ♭ - ♮ - ♯
- Barlines
- Repeat ending brackets
- Tuplet brackets
&c.

2) On The Other Hand there are items that are not so closely related to the note layout, e. g. performance instructions.
These items can without problems be “italicized”:
- Expressive text
- Dynamics
- text repeats such as Dal Segno.
&c.

Personally I do not see a problem with pedal notation in italics, possibly because it is not closely related to the note layout.

The upside down V is for up-down damper pedal. I know I've seen some refer to it as a half-pedal. I've never known it as that.

Starting a new document with the Default file will have all the marks. An easy way to get it back into the file in which you're working is to open the Default file, apply the shape to a measure, then copy/paste that measure into the file. That shape will now appear at the bottom of the list. You can move it up to where you want it.

Great, it's also what i think, if i need to use it for half pedal i think i would create a smaller one and write 1/2 near.
Thank for me is enough to start a new document and have all the default marks.
And what do you think about the italics or not thing?

If you don't use the old rather "Baroque" pedal mark (a below) the standard is regular, non-italicized Ped. (b below).

In my opinion it should. My guess is that it has been placed in the "Expressive text" category, more because of the positioning below the staff, than its being italicized. Actually it should belong in the Technique text category with regular font style. Now that category is by default positioned above the staff which doesn't suit the pedal mark.
