It claims (among other things) great improvements in percussion. We’ll see. For you guys to whom playback is important, they also say better, balanced playback, and more instruments.

Better balanced playback?
Does that mean I don't have to crank my sound all the way up when using Finale; and forgetting to turn it back down, receiving a sound notification of some sort, with me needing to change my underwear after the sound scares the you-know-what out of me?

Finale has a very low Output Level.
That's why it has to be turned up so much.
Same with Exported Files.
That's separate from Mixing Levels,
where some Inst are too soft to Balance .
Both need improvement.
I hope Finale 27 will be 24/96, not the 16/96 that it has been.

By all accounts, percussion mapping has been a cause of complaint since it was 'updated' c. 2010.

Otherwise, I've not seen huge numbers posting about the need to manually configure instruments. The Setup Wizard is one of Finale's better interfaces. If you're juggling different Garritan libraries, then the Sound Map Priority is a bit fiddly.
Minimizes the likelihood of not hearing any sound at all when playing your document.
The main gripe on forums is installing GPO, JABB, etc, but Finale not seeing it.
Finale QA Developer Greg Angel said: “To that end we have added some instruments to the database and carefully corrected some errors in how others were configured.
I wonder if that extends to fixing the errors in the SFZ files in GIFF, like the incorrect looping point on the Oboe d'Amore; the narrow ranges on the Choir, etc, etc.

Updates to the bugs in GPO and the other Garritan libraries would be welcome, as they're all several years old.

(Also, coming soon on CBS: Ryan Reynolds is Greg Angel, a maverick PI on the mean streets of Boulder.)

I've never experienced this.

Huh? Whenever I run Get Info on a GIFF or GPO audio file exported from Finale (26 Mac), it's always 48k/16 AIFF-C. I can post screen shots.

Also, one can certainly select mp3 as an export option.

You can save a Finale document as a standard Wave file (for burning to a CD), or as a compressed MP3 (for storing on your computer or transfer over the Internet)

As I've said recently on the Zendesk forum, you can only export mp3 if you're using "Play through MIDI" with SmartMusicSoftSynth sounds. The option is unavailable for VST playback.

If there were any reasons for maintaining such a distinction, I'm sure they're long gone. Compressing MP3 is no longer the CPU-consuming task it used to be. MuseScore, Sibelius and Dorico all export MP3 without difficulty.
