It seems that this stuff only happens when there is an unexpected deadline.
I am using Finale 2014.5 (yeah, I'm a Luddite) and am trying to set a simple 2-staff split point using the Hyper Scribe Record Mode split point setting. When I set a split point note, nothing happens. I have tried changing the split note to no avail.
Thanks to all for a work-around.

Set the two parts of the split measure with their own time signatures, and “set to display” the original t.s. You can use an invisible barline at the end of the first part. Remember to not include the second part in measure numbering.

Split Point with hyperscribe is the point at which pitches above go into the Treble Staff, and below to the Bass Staff.
Splitting MIDI note data can be done after note entry. If that fails, something else is up.

In v. 26, and I assume in 2014.5, the split point can be set after note entry through Plug-Ins > Scoring and Arranging > Split Point.
