mystery rest
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
no matter what I do,I can't get rid of it, for instance I have inserted a measure stack and copied the other information (not the marimba measure in question) to it, deleted the original stack, it still comes back
it's no big problem, but I'm very curious to see if someone can figure this out ...
thanks

You appear to have "Check For Extra Notes", in Simple Entry Options, unchecked.
The only way I know to eliminate that rest is to delete items until it disappears.
Then Check "Check For Extra Notes."
They are Gremlins!
OK, I see that it is already checked.
Seems like it must have been unchecked at some point.

It's not an "extra note."
The rest is from the bottom staff of the piano in measure 5. Somehow it got moved both horizontally and vertically. Select that measure with the selection tool and press Backspace to clear it and the stray rest will be deleted and the default rest will reappear. You can then enter a real whole rest and hide it.
If you are doing the cross-staff notation with the Note Mover and the Stem Direction tool, consider using the Cross Staff plug-in. It will take care of the rests for you.

ha! yes, that was it, I actually deleted things in the lower piano staff, but didn't go as far as measure 5 ....it was all done some time ago, can't remember what method I used for cross-staff, but that was obviously the culprit.
thanks for input!

no, it's a document setting and, as oldmkv said, it was checked

I'm pretty sure it's not a document option.
- Check the option in your file.
- Save and close it.
- Create a new default document.
- Uncheck the option in the new document.
- Close the new document (you don't have to save it).
- Open the original saved document in which you checked the option.
- Look at the option. It will be unchecked.
