When one moves through the Speedy editing frame with the left and right arrow keys, one finally encounters a position that coincides with none of the notes. This is shown in the example:

I don't know its official function, but I am glad of it as it prevents the frame from jumping automatically to the next bar after entering notes to the full value of the bar one is in. Could this actually be its purpose? Or is that something more arcane?

It's a way of adding something at the end of the measure (whether not yet full, or intentionally overfilling), regardless of whether Insert Notes or Rests is checked or not.

That explains it. Thanks David and Motet. I've wondered about it for years. But I do seem to remember this position not appearing so one does jump immediately to the next measure. Maybe that was in earlier versions. Yet...

If you have the "Jump to next measure" option checked, it will jump automatically when you enter something that fills the measure, but not when moving through with arrow keys.

I don't use Speedy for input and was referring only to the editing frame and arrow keys. I do remember it jumping directly to the next measure from the last note in the frame but not the circumstances. Maybe it will come up again.
