How do I split the contents of page 1 into two pages (so systems 1-6 of the present page 1 become 3 systems on new page 1 and 3 systems on new page 2) while still keeping all the formatting and text blocks etc. on all following pages intact?

Some formatting can't stay the same, obviously. Text blocks that are page assigned will stay on the page of their assignment. They can be changed to another page in the attributes window. Or, change them to measure assigned to go with the system being moved.

Without seeing what you have, it is impossible to guess as to the options.

I guess the answer is no. Thanks, zuill.

Actually the answer is yes. I remembered how do it with page breaks. And I'll try reassigning the text blocks as you suggested. Thanks.

Unfortunately, even with page breaks, if one adds a new system, it throws off the staff and system spacing for all the staves that follow. What I need is a way to add a new page after the first page that is not a blank page but a real page that I can move the last three systems of page one to without it affecting all the pages that follow.

Since we can't see what you have we're stabbing in the dark. When inserting a system, did you uncheck the option to Space Systems in the dialogue box?

That sounds promising, zuill. I'll try that.

There's nothing special to see in my file. Just a piano piece with 6 grand staves on each page. I want to move the last three systems of the first page to a new inserted second page and leave the remaining pages as they are.

If you add a Page break to System 7, then a page break to System 4, that should work. Again, I'm just trying this on a default piano document. If you do that, then there's no need to insert systems, unless I am missing something.

Well, I'm Not an Engraver, tho I play one on TV!
I would add a blank page, use Space Systems Evenly to place 3 Staves on Page one, and 3 on the new page 2.
Or Vice-Versa.
That's how we do it on TV.
Don't bother to tell me I'm wrong, I already know...

Sorry, adding the new system was a actually an independent issue. Using page breaks worked fine to do what I needed to do. The "space evenly" option was unchecked by default, so I think it must have been so when I first added a new system. However, I just added a new system again and the following systems retained their proper spacing , so I must have done something else wrong the first time. Thanks for your help, zuill.

oldmkvi, that's exactly what I attempted to do the first time. But can one put music on a blank page in Finale?

Blank pages are for text and imported graphics only. Music will skip over the blank page and flow onto the following page.

And that is what happened when I tried a blank page, oldmkvi. No cigar.
