I was wondering about an opinion about the new version before I upgrade.

Why not download the demo and try it out?

Make sure it works on your system, and does what you need it to do.

Scoring Notes have an extensive review, along with Jason Lofredo's videos.

https://www.scoringnotes.com/reviews/finale-version-27/

My own take is that the 'point zero' release is very much a work in progress, and users are likely to see improvements to productivity and increased functionality with each point update hereafter that will be more compelling. However, MM is finally 'doing stuff' that will make a difference to user's workflows and output, instead of just 'under-the-hood' fixes to old technology.

If the latest version fails to properly read old documents, you may need to save all your files into MusicXML format then convert them back to musx. In my case (from v2012 to v26.3), a lot of the articulations, expressions, lines and spacing got scattered or were completely lost. Most of my music library required extensive editing. The project took me several weeks. I think you will be wise firstly to try the new version, especially if you have many files in the older format.

They have not said the new version won't read old documents, and the MusicXML option would be extreme and disruptive, but it's certainly worth trying.

I think because of all that I have been reading as of lately I will hold off on upgrading from 26 to 27.

Thank you everyone.

You can leave 26.3 on your computer and still have 27 too. I am ready to uninstall 26.3 because 27 is working very well.

if you have ample room on your computer then there's no reason to get rid of older versions of Finale if you don't want to.

I have Finale 2012, Finale 2014, Finale 25 and Finale 26 all installed on my computer.

I keep the very old Finale 2012 because it's the only version that still plays back my old Stradivari Solo Violin sample library.

Though I've honestly pretty much only been working in Finale 26 for a long while now.

Hi everyone,

I just bought Finale 27. I need to get back into MIDI again.

Cheers,

Fin27
Menu>Midi/Audio.
Change "Play Finale through VST" to "Play Finale through MIDI".
Old files will always open with their old settings.
