missing measures in page view
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I have a short arrangemant for a pep band, 35 measures total. All the measures are there in studio view and scroll view but in page view measures 7 and 23 are missing. The score is 7 pages total and on page four in the gray area to the right of the page there are bunched up measures and I asume this is the problem but I can't seem to fix it. This occured after using the "Create Coda System" plug-in in Finale 2006b.
It plays back fine. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Make sure you apply update layout from the beginning of the document if you are in page view.crig wrote:Yes, I tried updating the layout. No change.

I tried all the update layout options, again no change. I thought it might
have something to do with the resize tool so I tried playing around with that. When I resized the 1st page to 95% the second page sort of super-imposed itself over page 1. Very weird. Measures 7 and 23 are still living in that gray area. Thanks for your help!

Two other possible culprits for missing measures in Page View:
1. Optimization.
To get rid of optimization:
Page Layout Tool.
Select all the systems.
Page Layout menu > Optimize Staff Systems...
Click the radio button "Remove Staff System Optimization".
2. Multimeasure rests.
To break multimeasure rests:
Measure Tool.
Select all the measures.
Measure menu > Multimeasure Rests > Break

Thanks Peter but that didn't work either-very frusturating. In the upper left hand corner of each page, small like an icon is a grand staff in blue with an up and down arrow in the bass clef. This same thing appears on the missing measures that are in the gray area to the right of pages 2 and 4. That's probably the problem but I don't know how to deal with that icon grand staff thing. I think it appeared after I used the Create Coda System plug in. I know it's not that big a deal but it's BUGGING me.
Thanks again

Peter,
When I moved my score from Finale 2012 to 26.3.1,643 in page view my page 21 is missing. If I zoom in it's ok, but can't zoom out. It's also ok in Scroll View. Any thoughts?
Also while I have you, any way to make 2 quarter rests into a half note rest? There are a couple of other examples where instead of a quarter I'm getting 4 16th rests, etc..
Thanks,
Dan

Did you try the Redefine Pages, as suggested above.
As for the rests, the only way I know of would be to delete one, and change the other. Then you could paste it into other occurrences.
In JW Change > Rests, there is a Combine function, but either I misunderstand its use, or I'm doing something wrong, because it doesn't work for me.

That is for rests between Layers. Instead of each layer showing its own rest, they now overlap each other to have only one rest show.

With Jari's JW Meter and Rhythm plugin, there's a "Merge Rests" feature. If you don't have Jari's plugins, I recommend you get them.Arroyo2021 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:46 pmAlso while I have you, any way to make 2 quarter rests into a half note rest? Thanks so much. Do you know how I can copy music from one part to another and still retain the music in the destination part. In other words have two lines in the destination, the original and the pasted part. I've tried using two different layers, but it's not working. It erases the original part and only the pasted part remains. Thanks, Danzuill wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:24 pmWith Jari's JW Meter and Rhythm plugin, there's a "Merge Rests" feature. One method is to Show Active Layer Only. That way, when you paste, it leaves the hidden layer alone.

From your description it sounds like you are not familiar withArroyo2021 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 7:48 pm… Do you know how I can copy music from one part to another and still retain the music in the destination part? Document menu > Show Active Layer Only
Show Active Layer Only
also means
Edit Active Layer Only
You can e. g. copy music from Layer 2 in the source to Layer 2 in the destination, without erasing the contents in Layer 1.
While we are at it:
Edit menu > Move/Copy Layers…
