Key change
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
My composer friend sent me her composition with which she is having problems. At measure 46 she changed the key from 4 sharps to 5 flats and all the notes after that went too high. She said this happened when she selected playback. Does anyone know what happened and how to get the notes back in the proper position. Changing each note by hand is not an option because this involves over 100 measures. See photo attached.

When you change the key signature it asks if you want to transpose the music up or down. It looks like the transposition should have been down.

Notes that are correct but an octave too high can be fixed after the fact. Just highlight the measure(s) with the Selection Tool and press 8 to drop the notes one octave.

That works if you want to transpose music that is already written but in this case she did the key change and then started to input the notes. It's only after she did a playback that the notes changed.Bill Stevens wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 11:54 pmWhen you change the key signature it asks if you want to transpose the music up or down. I tried to do that with the Mass Edit tool but cannot place the notes in the correct position.

Does that mean that the “correct position” is not simply an octave lower?SuperDave wrote:I tried to do that with the Mass Edit tool but cannot place the notes in the correct position.
In that case you need to use the Transposition utility.
Since we do not know the music, we can not tell what transposition is needed, to get the notes in the “correct position”.
Usually that does not happen when you select playback, but rather when you change the key signature from a minor key to a major key or vice versa.SuperDave wrote:… At measure 46 she changed the key from 4 sharps to 5 flats and all the notes after that went too high. I worked with Mass Edit, transpose and I cannot seem to put the notes in the correct position. I tried 1 octave, 1.5, 1.7 etc and none seem to work. I guess I'll have to reposition them by hand.

You can transpose by any interval you want. If you need help, post a picture of a few of the pitches you have and the pitches you want, and someone will identify the interval for you.
