Is there a way to hear percussion midi map sounds in advance?

Is there a way to listen to the available sounds in any given map before assigning them to a layout set? It's very tedious to apply a layout and then start adding notes in a test staff just to hear the sounds before choosing the ones I actually want. I should say that I do no have an actual MIDI keyboard device attached to my computer. Thanks for any hints.
