I've got a percussion part notated on a single line staff for the person who will be playing claves and tambourine. By default, the tambourine notes appear in the space just above the line, and the claves one space above that, with a ledger line. How can I change this so the claves are on the space just above the line and the tambourine is on the space just below the line?

I realize that if I understood percussion midi maps this should be easy, but I don't and it isn't.

Thanks all.

In the Staff Tool, right-click on the percussion staff's handle, pick Select Percussion Layout, then Edit, then change Staff Position for the ones you want.

Thanks; I can see how this ought to work, but unfortunately it didn't. No effect on the notes. Maybe it's relevant that all of my noteheads are being displayed as orange?

Hmm, I don't know. It seems to work for me. If they were orange before making the change, I think that means they were assigned to staff positions that were undefined; in that case, it doesn't surprise me that the Layout Designer change has no effect.

I recall something about repitching percussion. Maybe someone else here will know.

Aha - got it. There's a second step, after editing the Percussion Layout had to use the Transpose Percussion Instruments utility to assign the now-unknown notes to the right instruments, following which they are in the right place.
