Plug-ins Question

I'm in the midst of editing parts, and I'd like to use the Cautionary Accidental Plug-ins tool, but I can't access it because it's grayed-out in both page and scroll view. Is it only available in score view?

As always, thank you for your time.

It isn't on my machine. In the JW version you have to select a region first did you do that?
Is it only available in score view?
What is "score" view?

The Cautionary Accidentals plug-in is indeed only available from the score, but you can select just one staff to process if you like.

Are you using extracted parts? Because it is not greyed out in either scroll view or page view on my machine. I never use extracted parts so I can't help you there.

"Score" view as opposed to extracted part view?

As I think is obvious, by score view he means Document/Edit Score. And as I said, the plug-in is only available when editing the score.

No, not to me. A different preference in workflow, I guess, I never use scroll view to edit parts. Plus, if you do use extracted parts the plug-in is available in page view or scroll view. I just checked it!

Now I am curious why you would want to add the plug-in to just a part and not in the score? Even us old dogs can learn something new.

I'm not sure why you're harping on extracted parts, which nobody has mentioned. The question has been answered.

Experienced Finale users will know that a lot of the plug-ins work only from the score. I think there were technical issues with plug-ins that were created before linked parts were introduced, and to be safe, they restricted them to work only in the score.

Sorry to have troubled you. I thought perhaps there was something to learn here.

Thanks for the replies. I mis-spoke about "score view". I meant page view. So, if I read these comments correctly, this plugin only works on the master score, and not the individual parts. It's funny that the Finale help files don't mention that. It merely says to highlight the region (which I did) and use the plugin.

Another new trick for the old dog...

You didn't misspeak--you said "it's grayed-out in both page and scroll view. Is it only available in score view?" and I knew what you meant.

The manual is indeed incomplete and outdated in spots. On the general plug-ins page it does say, "Note that some plug-ins are not accessible in linked parts; to apply a plug-in to a part, you might consider extracting the part first", but I think this is a drastic solution and not good general advice, (such as in this case, where one can simply switch to the score), so it's just as well you missed it!
