HI
I have an xml file in 5/4 (string trio) —everyone playing long tones with the cellist playing a quarter-note ostinato marking out the harmony. But listening to the reference track I think rescoring it in 2/2 with the cellist playing quintuplets over the 2 would make sense.
two questions:
for the string players, would you prefer reading the figure in 5/4 or quintuplets in 2/2?
for Finale experts, is there an 'easy' simpler workflow to change time signature and rebar with the least amount of re-entry?
thanks for help and insight

hi
I ended up just reentering the notes into a new doc. But Im very curious on the workflow for this type of situation if anyone has an answer.
In this case Im getting turned around with the operation order to get from bars of 5/4 into bars of 2. A pencil and eraser sure looks good now ;0

The reason I didn't answer is because it is difficult to make a suggestion without seeing the entire movement. It probably depends on whether you feel the movement to be two beats or five beats in the bar.
Regarding time signatures, classical musicians can read any time signature without difficulty.

hi
well, yes it feels "in two" thats how I came to this conundrum. (this film cue is basically 71 bars of the above- with the violin doubling the bass later on.)
Practice and readability aside, Im curious about the how a Finale-an might setup their workflow.
1st attempt was:
2nd attempt was to change it to 10/4, then tuple, change signature... again, easier to re-enter.
Im interested now merely in terms of how to simplify workflow and best practices for the future.
Curious to hear how everyone approaches these situations.

- tuple the 5in4
erase beat 5 from the measure
timesig tool to 4/4

I suspect it's a situation that most people wouldn't encounter. In addition to changing the time signature, somehow you need to reduce the duration of all the notes to 2/5 of their original values, create tuplets, and merge tied notes, which is a tall order. The JW Meter and Rhythm plug-in will halve or double notes, but I don't see an option to do other fractions. Maybe someone else will know, though.
