I am trying to copy the second movement of my organ concerto so that it is one continuous document with the first movement for the purpose of making the parts fit better on the page. Unfortunately, when I do this, all of the key signatures are correct, but the pitches are off, and to make matters worse, it's different from one key to the next. The first section is in E major, and all of the pitches are a M3 lower than they should be. Another section is in B flat major, and all of the pitches are a m7 lower than they should be. Etc.

I have the copy-and-past filter set to copy absolutely everything. As an experiment, I set it not to use the filter, and it still happened.

Can anyone venture a guess as to why this is happening?

I'm posting the first 56 or so measures of the problem passages, along with the original, so that you can compare if you want to. The first 47 measures, in E major, are off by a M3, but the passage that starts at m. 48 is in C major and is correct! When it returns to E major at m. 74, the pitches are off by a M3 again. Unfortunately, I can't post that much of it, so you'll have to take my word for it that it's not copying and pasting as it should.

Thanks for your help.

Mark

If I copy the first measure of "As it should be" into "Copy and and paste problems" it's fine, with and without filter. To copy the clefs, I had to choose that in the filter.

Thanks!

I just tried the same with the same results you got. Maybe I just need to copy and paste each section separately.

I agree that I don't see why I should have to—and I shouldn't have to—but something about the copy and paste process is messing up.

And now that I went back to trying it again, copied and pasted onto the end of the first movement, it's happening all over again. Is it something about the first movement itself that is causing this?

It may be that you have to put all the key signature changes into the empty document first.

It's even worse than I thought. It'll be off for a few measures, and then it will be back to the right notes for another few measures, then off again. What a pain!

Make sure the source and destination key signatures match in the same places.

If you want to post the files in question I'm willing to give it a try.

Another thought: do you have independent key signatures anywhere (either staff attributes or staff styles)?

Thanks so much! I just went through and got it all straightened out, except for the many clefs it changed. Once I fix those, I need to triple check it to make sure I didn't miss something.

The first half of the first movement is "keyless", ie, has no key signature , but there aren't any independent key signatures.

Triple-checking is good anyway!

For future reference, to get the clefs to copy you need to do this in the filter:

OK Thanks! I will make sure I have that checked next time. It really made a mess of the clefs for the instruments that change clefs!
