Hi all,
In this bar of 6/8 (setup as two dotted crotchets per bar), Finale is wanting to put the 32nd rest before the 16th rest.
Is Finale correct? I am confused!
Cheers,
Hector.

I think you may have accidentally inserted the 32nd rest before the sixteenth rest manually. Try placing it after the sixteenth. It inserts either way.

Thank you, motet and John! I am not 100% sure why Finale is behaving like that.
You might be able to replicate the issue by doing this:
step 1. notate this bar. step 2: highlight just the rests and press delete, and these are Finale's default rests that I get:

There's an option in MIDI/Audio->Quantization settings->More settings->Allow dotted rests in compound meter. You might see if that's set. There are bugs having to do with Finale's generation of rests. One that comes to mind offhand is filling out a measure in 12/8. If you enter a dotted quarter note, then let Finale fill with rests, it will put the dotted half rest in the middle of the bar rather than at the end. The safest thing to do is enter all the rests yourself.

Thanks motet! It wasn't set, so I just ticked the box and now when I delete the aforementioned rests, the correct notation remains!
I am thinking I should tick the simple meters box too, in case that helps later on with other music.
I would never have thought to look in there!
Cheers and thank you,
Hector.

If I recall correctly, there are some bugs with those settings having nothing to do with rests, but rather with copying music from one place to another. Perhaps someone will remember the details. I leave both unchecked but use dotted rests, but I never clear partial measures like that. But it depends on your workflow.
